Sun Chemical – Global, multicultural, and diverse also means multilingual
Sun Chemical is a leading producer of printing inks, coatings, and pigments with two centuries of experience in innovation and development in the industry.
The international corporate giant has 176 subsidiaries in 63 different countries.
The community of twenty thousand people conducts research and develops solutions in close communication and in accordance with common values and the best interests of customers.
“One of our most important goals is to act responsibly and build a more sustainable future,” says Mari Veistelehto, Sun Chemical Nordic’s HR Advisor.
A multicultural work community invests in internal communication.
At Sun Chemical, communication is used to manage daily operations, to build community spirit, and to show that the company cares about its employees.
“It’s not just about providing information and instructions, but also about ensuring the wellbeing of our people.”
According to Veistelehto, the goal of internal communication is to ensure that everyone knows what is going on in the company and what is expected from each team member. The majority of internal communication takes place via email, meetings, and various online channels, but also during lunch breaks, events and training sessions. All interactions between employees is internal communication.
Our employees understand their role as communicators. They participate actively in language courses and want to develop their language and communication skills. Our talented team includes multilingual employees that communicate with the customers in their own native languages.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the significance of internal communication and further increased its need.
“When half of our employees switched to remote work, we had to find new ways to stay in touch. Microsoft Teams became an important tool, and regular online coffee meetings have helped us stay up to date. As a result, we have become more acquainted with our colleagues living outside of Finland and our team has grown closer,” says Veistelehto.
This is one of the reasons why investing in internal communication, language skills and translations has been important.

Quality translations support internal communication
In Finland, Sun Chemical’s employees communicate in Finnish, but the company uses English as its global language. In addition, the employees communicate in Swedish with their Nordic colleagues and customers.
In addition to Finnish and English, Lingo has translated Sun Chemical’s instructions and newsletters into Swedish.
“Collaboration with Lingo has been smooth, and we always receive quick and friendly service. Additionally, the translations are always delivered on time,” says Veistelehto.
